It seems like it took us a long time to get superhero movies right, at least in Hollywood. I contend that China has been nailing the superhero genre for many decades, only we call them Kung Fu movies, bu that’s a topic for another time.
My wife and I loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Afterward, I couldn’t decide whether it was my favorite of the genre, but it’s certainly in the top three with Iron Man and The Avengers. Part of the reason I can’t choose between them is that they are all so good at different things. Winter Soldier is an exhilarating thriller, Iron Man as good a superhero origin as we’ve ever seen, and The Avengers a terrific unification of what could have been wildly different subgenres.
This week’s question comes in two parts: Which is your favorite of the nine Marvel Studios movies (and why), and which lesser-appreciated non-Marvel superhero movie do you think everyone should see?
